General Foot & Nail Care
Routine nail and skin care, corns, callus, cracked heels and fungal infection.
Not everything is a sports injury. Routine nail and skin care is a large part of what a podiatry clinic does, and doing it well — comfortably, hygienically, and without lecturing anyone — matters just as much as the rehabilitation work.
What's involved
Nail care
Trimming and thinning of thickened or difficult nails, including for patients who can't comfortably manage this themselves.
Corns and callus
Debridement for immediate relief, plus identifying the pressure source so it doesn't simply rebuild.
Cracked heels and dry skin
Treatment and a realistic home care plan, which usually matters more than what happens in the appointment.
Fungal nail and skin infection
Diagnosis — including distinguishing fungal from non-fungal nail changes — and honest discussion of treatment options and timeframes.
Medical-grade pedicure
A thorough treatment delivered clinically, for people who want the result without a salon setting.
What to expect
Your appointment, stage by stage.
Assessment
History, physical examination, gait and movement analysis, and objective strength testing where it's relevant. We're building a picture of what the limb can currently tolerate.
Diagnosis
A clear explanation of what's happening and why — in plain language, with the reasoning shown. Imaging or onward referral where it will change the plan.
Treatment
A staged plan combining manual therapy, exercise prescription, footwear or orthotic support and activity modification, weighted to what your presentation actually needs.
Follow-up
Re-testing against the baseline so progress is measured, not assumed, and the plan adjusts as capacity improves.
Common questions
General Foot Care, answered.
How often should I come in?
Every six to twelve weeks suits most people for routine care, though it varies with nail growth and skin type.
Can fungal nails actually be cured?
They can improve significantly, but it's slow — nails grow out over months, not weeks. We'd rather set that expectation honestly than sell a quick fix.
I'm embarrassed about my feet.
Very common, and genuinely nothing we haven't seen. There's no judgement in the room.
This page is general information, not a diagnosis. If you're in pain, an assessment is the only way to know what's actually happening — book online or call 9284 0736.
