Runners mid-stride during a race

Sports Podiatry

Assessment, rehabilitation and return-to-sport planning for foot, ankle, knee and hip injuries.

Sport asks a lot of the lower limb, and injury usually means the demand has outrun what the tissue can currently handle. Our job is to work out where that gap is, close it with graded loading, and get you back to training with a plan you can actually follow — not an open-ended course of treatment.

What's involved

Diagnosis that explains the mechanism

Not just what the injury is, but why it happened in your sport, at your training load, with your movement pattern. That's what stops it recurring.

Objective strength and load testing

VALD ForceDecks measurement gives a baseline for calf, quad and single-leg capacity, so return-to-sport decisions rest on numbers rather than how it feels on the day.

Staged return-to-sport programming

Clear phases with entry criteria for each, so you and your coach know when it's appropriate to progress rather than guessing.

Working with your team

Where you have a physio, S&C coach or club medical staff, we'd rather be part of that conversation than run a parallel plan.

What to expect

Your appointment, stage by stage.

01

Assessment

History, physical examination, gait and movement analysis, and objective strength testing where it's relevant. We're building a picture of what the limb can currently tolerate.

02

Diagnosis

A clear explanation of what's happening and why — in plain language, with the reasoning shown. Imaging or onward referral where it will change the plan.

03

Treatment

A staged plan combining manual therapy, exercise prescription, footwear or orthotic support and activity modification, weighted to what your presentation actually needs.

04

Follow-up

Re-testing against the baseline so progress is measured, not assumed, and the plan adjusts as capacity improves.

Common questions

Sports Podiatry, answered.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly. If you have a GP or specialist referral we'll work alongside it, and we're happy to report back to them.

Should I stop training completely?

Usually not. Complete rest deconditions the limb and makes the return harder. More often we modify load — changing volume, surface or movement — so you keep training while the injured tissue recovers.

How long until I'm back?

It depends on the tissue and the sport, and we'd rather give you a realistic range at assessment than an optimistic number up front. What we will do is set the milestones so you can see progress against them.

This page is general information, not a diagnosis. If you're in pain, an assessment is the only way to know what's actually happening — book online or call 9284 0736.

Not a diagnosis

Hi — I can explain what the clinic treats, how an assessment works, and where we are. I can't diagnose, so anything clinical needs an appointment.
